Catherine Hurt, M.D. was re-elected Chair of The Mutual’s Board of Directors on June 28, 2018.

Dr. Hurt joined The Mutual’ Board of Directors in 2007 as a Policyholder Liaison. Prior to her election as Chair, Dr. Hurt served as Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Compensation Committee; she also was a member of the Governance, Audit and Nomination Committees.

Dr. Hurt has been Board Certified in Emergency Medicine since 1999. She received her BA in Biochemistry from UC Berkeley and her MD from UC San Francisco in 1994. She completed an Emergency Medicine Residency at UC San Diego in 1998 and then returned to the Bay Area to practice.

Dr. Hurt has practiced as an Emergency Physician at Kaiser San Francisco, Kaiser Oakland, Alta Bates Hospital, Doctor’s Hospital San Pablo and John Muir Medical Center, Concord Campus. She now practices at John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek Campus, where she was the Medical Director; Dr. Hurt resigned as Medical Director upon her election as Chair.

Dr. Hurt’s professional associations include the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Alameda-Contra Costa County Medical Association and the California Medical Association.
