It is our great pleasure to announce that Mark Spiro, MD, has joined The Mutual as our first Medical Director.  For the past 16 years prior to January 1, 2014, Dr. Spiro served as President & Chief Operating Officer of CEPAmerica (CEPA), where he oversaw all clinical operations, including medical negligence claims against CEPA partners, employees and the entity itself.  While he was CEPA’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Spiro worked clinically in the emergency departments at Palomar and Pomerado Hospitals.

As The Mutual’s Medical Director, Dr. Spiro will review all newly reported cases as well as complex and large exposure claims and lawsuits for standard of care; work with the Patient Safety Department to develop patient safety initiatives and medical professional liability educational objectives; consult on new risks exposures and reach out to physicians involved in lawsuits who are interested in discussing the litigation process with a clinician who has been through malpractice litigation with the goal of ameliorating stress.

We expect Dr. Spiro’s clinical and claims experience to elevate The Mutual’s service to you, our insureds.  We are honored to have Dr. Spiro join The Mutual’s executive team.
